Actress Joanna Lumley unveils state-of-the-art pathology laboratory on behalf of The London Clinic

116 official opening

The London Clinic last night (Thursday 4 March) officially opened the doors to its new state-of-the-art pathology laboratory and consulting rooms at 116 & 120 Harley Street, in the heart of London’s prestigious medical community.

The new, purpose-built laboratory will house the latest in technology to ensure the most efficient and high quality testing for patients, including:

* The Abbott Accelerator APS total automation solution – allowing the Clinic’s special Blood Sciences Laboratory to process a far higher volume of work, in addition to faster and more efficient analytical testing

*  A new suite for the processing and cryopreservation of bone marrow and stem cells to support the work of The London Clinic’s haematology transplant unit, designed to be fully compliant with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) guidelines

Consultants and key representatives from the Clinic were joined by actress Joanna Lumley, who unveiled a plaque to help commemorate the event. Officially called ‘The London Clinic Consulting Rooms and Pathology Laboratory’, the new 35,000 sq ft building involved the redevelopment of four Harley Street houses and has taken 36 months to complete. It will also include 29 new consulting rooms for, amongst others, a select number of gastroenterologists, neurosurgeons, general surgeons, and those consultants forming both The London Clinic’s Liver Centre and the renowned London Spine Clinic.

Malcolm Miller, Chief Executive of The London Clinic, says: “We are thrilled with this new development, which will further enhance The London Clinic’s reputation for providing the very best in medical treatment and patient care.

“Our vision was to create a state-of-the-art pathology lab using top quality design and services, in an environment which is both comfortable to work in and highly efficient. This meant delivering an effective integration of modernity with practicality.  We feel the new building encapsulates this vision perfectly and will enable our consultants and staff to continue to provide the service and expertise that our patients have come to expect.”
