Anaesthetics and pain management
The anaesthetic service provides medical emergency cover
24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the whole of The London Clinic.
Care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team led by the individual
patient's consultant.
There is also a team of consultant
intensivists who are available should there ever be a need to admit
patients to the Critical Care Unit. Working alongside these
consultants is a team of CCU fellows who are available
24/7 for the whole hospital.
The patient's care is co-ordinated by a team of critical care
specialist nurses who also deliver the hands-on nursing care for
individual patients. They are trained to deal with all types of
medical emergency. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 for CCU level
3 and 1:2 for CCU level 2.
Outpatient pain management
The London Clinic provides pain management services on an
outpatient basis. These are operated by consultant anaesthetists
who specialise in pain relief and pain management, including
interventions for spinal pain, management for acute and chronic
pain, and vascular and oncology interventions.
Pain relief after an operation
This is managed by a consultant anaesthetist, and supported by
trained nursing staff in recovery, critical care and on the nursing
floors.
