This sub-specialty is a key element of the neurology and neurosurgery service as a whole. Here are the roles our anaesthetists undertake:

 

The anaesthetist undertakes a number of important roles which include:

 

 

 

- Pre-operative assessment and preparation of the

  patient for neurosurgery
- Maintenance of patient safety during anaesthesia and

  neurosurgery
- Management of post-operative pain and nausea
- Prevention and management of post-operative

  respiratory complications of neurosurgery
- Management of critically ill patients with neurological

  diseases/pathologies who require ventilation and

  admission to the intensive care unit

- Pain management clinics
- Epidural, dorsal root ganglion block and facet block

  for pain

- The safe transfer of patients from other countries or

  other hospitals
