Bariatric Services
An increasing number of people worldwide are
overweight. This puts extra strain on the body and can have
serious impact on someone’s physical and mental well-being.
But, with the correct advice and treatment there is hope for people
who are seriously overweight.
The London Clinic has developed a complete
service, drawing on a team of specialists, to help patients from
their initial assessment through to after-care and the patient
journey beyond.
Being overweight is defined as having a ‘body
mass index’ (BMI) of more than 27.
Over 43% of men and 29% of women in the UK are
overweight. Of these, 13% of men and 16% of women are defined
as obese where they have a BMI of 30 or more.
In some patients their weight is
causing other medical illness and bariatric treatment is
required for effective management of these other illnesses.
The London Clinic Bariatric Service has been
established to help people with a BMI of 30 or over:
- * achieve significant weight loss through surgery
- * avoid serious diseases and conditions associated with being
seriously overweight
- * begin the road to a healthier lifestyle
Bariatric surgery leads to life-long change
and should be contemplated only after careful consideration and
discussed with your doctor.
